Mostly, It's All About Tech... Mostly.

Things I want to do in 2024

2024 is now here. I'm typing this early afternoon on the 1st of January 2024. 2023 is behind me, and I've got a fresh, clean year stretching out in front of me. It's a bit like new bed linen, except it's less crisp and doesn't smell of flowers.

So, as I have never done before, I shall list a few things I want to do differently this year. That way, when I revisit this post in the future, I can see how I've failed miserably at most of the entries.

The things I want to do differently, start doing, or even stop doing in 2024 are:

  1. Quit posting on all social media. To be honest, I don't post outside of my own technical/retro bubble anyway, but it's time to knock that on the head, also. So, places like Reddit, Lobste.rs, Hackaday, and some other more obscure places will no longer receive pearls of wisdom from me. I know they'll be devastated to hear this, but I'm sure those sites will cope without me.
  2. Work harder on hardware projects. I actually pledged this one privately a year ago, but other than a few small projects, I never got stuck into anything of substance. I really want to up my game with electronics and start building/fixing stuff properly. I've got a pile of old computers with bits wrong with them that should be within my abilities to fix, so I'll try to make that happen this year.
  3. Increase the frequency of my long-form writing. This includes this blog and other guides I want to write. I also want to try my hand at short fiction writing. I've dumped 100,000s of words over the years into ephemeral posts and comments. It's time to put that effort into something more substantial.
  4. Procrastinate less. This one, I know, will come back to bite me as I am an expert procrastinator. I need to stop putting off things I can just do 'right now'. Which in turn will increase my productivity. This is the big one, really. If I can nail this one, a lot of other problems will go away.
  5. Finish what I start. So many of the 'projects' I start, I never finish. I either lose interest or hit a tricky bit that I then put off doing (See #4). I need to start seeing things through to completion this year.

That's my core five, I think. I almost failed on #5, as it's now January 2nd, and I didn't get around to finishing this post yesterday!
